Fox News' holiday shocker: Angelina Jolie hates Thanksgiving

Angelina_jolie If there is an afterlife, I hope that I can be reborn as a headline writer for Fox News, where everyone seems to have a riotiously good time mocking or misrepresenting anything that is ever said -- or even imagined to be said -- by a liberal do-gooder. Last week, the target was Barack Obama. The president's new children's book happened to celebrate, among a host of other American heroes, the Sioux Indian chief Sitting Bull, inspiring a story from Foxnews.com headlined: "Obama Praises Indian Chief Who Killed U.S. General."

And now, just in time for Turkey Day, Fox News is at again, with a story headlined: "Angelina Jolie Hates Thanksgiving, Refuses to Celebrate, Report Says." Of course, if you read the story, which originally appeared at the gossipy PopEater.com, you'd discover that there's zero evidence that Jolie said anything of the sort. In fact, the original story, which reads like a parody of a National Enquirer hit job, never quotes Jolie at all, relying on information culled from anonymous "family friends" and "insiders," who if they were actually friends at all, wouldn't be sharing such preposterous whoppers with a tabloid writer.

I mean, if one of your friends was actually talking to a tabloid snoop, could you imagine them stringing together a couple of sentences like this? "Jolie hates this holiday and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans," the friend supposedly said. "To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn't her style. She definitely doesn't want to teach her multi-cultural family how to celebrate a story of murder."

Yeah, right, that's just how any one of my friends would put it -- Patrick hates this holiday and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans ... .  But at Fox News, anything that can serve as fodder to ridicule lefty Hollywood celebs is fair game, which must be why Fox's slogan is "fair and balanced."

With Thanksgiving upon us, I'd prefer to take the high road by offering up one of my favorite moments from my favorite Thanksgiving movie, John Hughes' "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." It stars Steve Martin and the late John Candy as mismatched travelers trying to get home for Turkey Day. (If you watch the movie, you'll see why every critic in America complained that "Due Date" was a callow rip-off of this wonderful tale.) In this scene, known to fans as the "Those Aren't Pillows" scene, the fellas, stuck for the night in a cheap motel room, wake up in a sleeping posture that turns out to be a little too close for comfort. Enjoy!

If Jolie and Pitt wasted their time sueing every ignorant tabloid who wrote lies about them, they would be doing nothing else. They only sued once when the legitimate press stupidly believed, then repeated a story. If tabloid stories were true, then they would have been married and divorced at least 40 times and, have had at least 60 children. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would laugh at these types of stories, which for the most part Pitt and Jolie do. But for those with no lives who want to believe the "friends and sources with no names", go right ahead. But one thing is true, this paper and other supposedly legitimate outlets do have "gossip" sections which is something I have never quite understood.

wonder if this anonymous "friend" is named aniston or huvane? besides, thought she said she didn't have any friends? agree with some posters, it's not just fox (unless they own popeater). liberal blogs run negative jolie stories to bring out the haters and get the hits just as much. one of the things i like about her is how little she cares. also, no celebrity ever sues in the US due to the ridiculous libel laws, they sue in the UK and seem to always win.

If she indeed feels this way I applaud her. I do not celebrate the Slaughtering Of The Indigenous People Day either. For those that believe that it is a day to be thankful for all that you have, I do that everyday. For those that believe this is a day to spend with your family and friends, I do that everyday too. What makes this day so special. Food for thought!

This is a good and fair and balanced analysis - fun too.

Mr. Goldstein,
"Taking the high road" which you claim to do, would be not commenting at all versus continuing to sling mud, which is what you actually do.
The sad state of "journalism".

I love Fox News. So do 10's of millions across the USA. If the media folks would take their collective heads out of the Malibu sands, they just might realize just how far off they are in their perception of the citizens of this country. All you have to do is read the comments posted here in the LA Times or CNN for that matter and on the hot button issues such as the performance of Congress, the failure of the Obama administration to create "change" and "transparency", immigration, jobs, etc ... the majority of the postings are definitely on the "conservative" side. LA and NY may be media centers, but they hardly speak for the country ... and their readers are beginning to speak out against what they are being fed.

Not sure why you would say "Fox News is at it again?" What, for exposing how hypocritical she is? Native people are not something of the past. Pine Ridge Indian reservation is the POOREST, yes, I said POOREST, area in the US. I know the Jolie-Pitts spent time in New Orleans but why don't they visit Pine Ridge or other reservations if they are so concerned about Native people? Spouting off this garbage just makes her feel better for doing nothing for Native people. Spare me.

FOX NEWS IS JOKE just like the website they stole the story from!! Murdoch only cares about $$$$$ He plays both sides against the middle Lowbro FOX network on one side and Highbro right wing FOX NEWS on the other to complain about it, that is where the "FAIR & BALANCED comes from you fools!!

Another comment section, another right wing knucklehead gathering. Patrick E, Volunteer, and Me, so far.

You hear this "liberal slant" stuff, and it is so tired and untrue. Yes, publishing facts and truth is now liberal. Science is "liberal," too. That means any news outlet that does not spew right wing Fox-ish propaganda has a "liberal slant."

Fox is literally making up stories... Goldstein is right...

Oh No! I am Shocked, shocked I tell You to read another Liberal posts a biased, one-sided review of a Fox News story.

How original.
