'The Social Network's' provocative new teaser trailer
When it comes to "The Social Network," due out this October from Sony Pictures, I'm already hooked, since who wouldn't want to see a movie with David Fincher at the helm, directing off of an Aaron Sorkin script.
And having read it, I can only say -- whadda script! That the very cool Jesse Eisenberg is playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is really just gravy. (And am I the only one who thinks Eisenberg looks exactly what you'd imagine Michael Cera's older brother to look like?)
But now Sony has put up a teaser trailer for the film that makes the project feel even more alluring than ever, especially since it's a canny exercise in the persuasive power of language. The teaser doesn't have a foot of film from the movie, opting for snatches of off-screen dialogue that play over a series of what you might call provocative power words: Punk. Genius. Prophet. Traitor. Billionaire.
The whole exercise culminates with what is surely the year's best movie tagline: "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." It's followed by a photo of Eisenberg as Zuckerberg, proving that when it comes to selling the concept of a movie about the creation of the world's largest social network, you don't need a lot of pictures to tell the story. Just watch:

That is the most pretentious piece of claptrap I've ever seen. I'm LOLing.

Provocative? All the trailer tells me is that there must be nothing visually interesting about the film.
