It took Tiger Woods months of foot dragging before he finally got out in front of the cameras and apologized for cheating on his wife. But Jesse James must have a savvier crisis management advisor. Barely 24 hours after the news broke that he’d been unfaithful to Sandra Bullock while she was off shooting ‘The Blind Side,’ James has managed to do right by his woman by going straight to the arbiter of all things involving celebrity misbehavior -- People magazine -- and admitting that he’s ‘truly very sorry for the grief’ he’s caused his wife and kids.

As he said in a statement to People: ‘There is only one person to blame for this whole situation, and that is me. It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way. This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them.... I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.’

I guess it’s up to Bullock whether she wants to take Jesse back or not, although I’ve got to think she’s gonna extract quite a price, especially after looking like such a sap giving the big tattooed lout such a big emotional thank you at the Oscars, in front of about 800 million TV viewers. But hearing James say that he ‘deserves everything bad’ that comes his way got me to thinking: What sort of punishment does he deserve? How bad should it get?

Should he be forced to watch 100 hours of ‘Kirstie Alley’s Big Life’? Be Charlie Sheen’s gofer for a month? Play 72 holes of golf with Charles Barkley? Any suggestions?
