'G.I. Joe' reviews just keep getting better!
We promised to keep regular tabs on "G.I. Joe's" amazingly positive reviews, which are amazingly positive -- so far -- since Paramount has only been showing the film to certified fan-boy zealots, keeping all of the mainstream critics away from the film until it opens on Friday. Yesterday, the film registered an 80 on Rotten Tomatoes; today the film has skyrocketed to an 85, putting it up there with such genuine critical darlings as "(500) Days of Summer" and "The Hurt Locker."
Blackfilm.com's Wilson Morales offered this glowing assessment, saying that "despite all the brou-ha-ha ... about the state of the film, 'G.I. Joe' is a pure adrenaline fantasy and fun ride." Of course, if it was really that good, why would Paramount be keeping all the critics away? Let's see how the film fares tomorrow. Could it go even higher, like into "Citizen Kane" territory?
PREVIOUSLY: Will 'G. I. JOE' REALLY GET BETTER REVIEWS THAN 'THE HANGOVER'?

I don't know, maybe I'm not fanboy enough, but I have a bad feeling about GI Joe.
I was part of the generation that had the toys, the comic books, etc., etc.,... and the thing that I liked was that the characters had their own identities, they looked different, dressed different, and acted different. Everyone in this movie pretty much looks the same, which means that if they didn't even bother to translate that to the big screen, it's nothing more than an excuse for special effects.
That's my opinion.

Sir, calling those critics "certified fan-boy zealots" is extreme. The truth is that the mainstream print critics were readying their execution axe before they had seen the film. The negative buzz surrounding the film has been unfounded. Clearly Paramount decided the dying newspaper industry isn't that beneficial to them anyway, and doesn't effect the gross (see Transformers 2). Therefore a select group of online critics (the ones who have not ran smear campaigns against the film) were given a screening.
Now I'm not a fan of all of the online journalists that saw the film but their opinion is no less valid than your' own.

There is ALWAYS cause for concern when a studio decides to leach from an 80s cartoon and make a full length feature. History shows that the old white guys who own Paramount and studios like it can really ruin the franchise as a whole e.g The punisher (both of them), Watchmen, league of extraordinary gentlemen, Daredevil, I could continue but you get the point. If the movie is good people will see it no matter what. The move on Paramount's part shows an obvious lack of confidence in this film, and I feel it will be warranted shortly.

From the previews alone this movie looks stupid.

Saw the movie here today (it came out in Korea on Thursday), and it's good. It doesn't take itself too seriously, the comic relief actually fits (compare that to the embarrassingly bad scenes from Transformers 2) and it's a nice origin story. The length is good too. I'd give it about 75% or so, not the best film ever but definitely one you would regret missing.

Several things to speak about: 1. I'm tired of the ceaseless detractors who pan this movie without having seen it, and 2. those naysayers who base comparisons and opinions from the 80's series as if that is canon (GI JOE existed before that *shock*). Finally, 3. This is in regards to Didi-T's comment. Only one of those movies can be considered a franchise, "Punisher"; you're not going to see anymore " Watchmen" movies. Also, what a nice way to throw the "race card" into the fold. "The old white guys", huh? You've definitely showed your true bigoted colors, which is everything GI Joe is against.

If GI Joe truly is as good as the carefully handpicked outlets are saying it is, I must congratulate the GI Joe marketing team for doing an exceptional job of hiding it in the trailers and commercials.

G.I. Joe had one redeeming factor: it increased my endorphin levels. I couldn't stop laughing at the terrible dialogue, holey plot, lame accents and one-dimensional characters. Save yourself the time and money and give it a miss. It's every bit as disappointing as you hope it wouldn't be.

Ya know times are rough right now...I don't need a film with superb deep plot or extreme built characters. If this film has at least 50percent good acting, mindless super awesome cgi, and feeds my need to escape reality and chill to a fun movie then its doing its job. I'm tired of seeing how we need to take what is really for kids (Transformers included) and try to over complicate it. So what if the dialogue is a little cheesy and not all proper. If you want something that serious and in depth then I suggest you take a good look at Lord of the Rings. For those of us though he need to just break away for a change and just have fun with a movie than your really going to love this. By the way I saw the midnight screening and I will say this GO JOE!!!!!
