When Larry King sang ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ at Wrigley Field on Saturday, it was unclear whether the septuagenarian, seven-time-divorced talk show host was practicing for a part in a road show version of ‘Guys and Dolls’ or just figured that you should sing the song the way you order a pastrami on rye at Nate ‘n Al’s in Beverly Hills, but either way, the results were kitsch of the highest order.

At least King, who was once ejected from his son’s Little League game here in Los Angeles, brought my beloved Cubbies good luck, as they pummeled the Dodgers 7-0. As one fan who was on hand put it afterward: ‘It was so Borscht Belt that I actually thought Larry was going to go directly from ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ to an Al Jolson medley from ‘The Jazz Singer.’ ‘
