Tumblr Button allows sharing from websites to Tumblr with many options
Tumblr now has a button too, following the trend taken up by a growing number of social-media minded companies.
The Tumblr Button works much like its designed-to-share contemporaries. Once a website has a Tumblr button installed on its various pages, a simple click allows Web surfers the ability to share a photo, video or passage of text to their Tumblr blog -- also known as a Tumblog.
The idea is to enable website owners, publishers and media companies to allow (and foster) publishing content to Tumblr, which has published more than 5 billion posts across more than 18 million individual Tumblogs.
But, in an effort to stand out a bit, Tumblr has added more advanced options for what its button can do.
"The Tumblr Button can give you complete control over how your content appears when shared on Tumblr," wrote Joshua Nguyen, a product director at Tumblr. "Not only does this mean specifying an excerpt or summary, but also deciding whether it appears as a link, quote, photo or video embed."
Nguyen said the Tumblr Buttons can be integrated with "just about any publishing platform to add contextual buttons next to things like paragraphs or photos."
