Amazon rolled out a 3G version of its ad-supported Kindle with Special Offers eReader on Wednesday, at a price that is $25 less than its ad-free Kindle 3G counterpart.

The Kindle 3G with Special Offers eTeader, which sells for $164, arrives a little more than a month after the debut of the Wi-Fi only Kindle with Special Offers device, which sells for $114 and has already become one of Amazon’s bestselling products.

On the Special Offers devices, Amazon runs advertisements on the Kindle’s screensaver, and in a strip along the bottom of the home screen. The ads don’t interrupt books, or the reading experience, the company says.

The regular ad-free Kindle Wi-Fi unit sells for $139 while the 3G model sells for $189.

The devices, ad-running or not, feature 6-inch E Ink Pearl displays and download e-books from Amazon.com’s online Kindle Store.

Amazon’s new offering also comes in what has been a busy week for eReader news.

On Tuesday, Barnes & Noble announced a new touchscreen Nook eReader, with a better-than-Kindle two-month battery life. And on Monday, Kobo announced its own touchscreen device, called the Kobo eReader Touch Edition.
