Obama to host town hall on the economy at Facebook on April 20
President Barack Obama's 2012 reelection campaign is underway and, in what may be a nod to the influence of social media on his presidency, he's hosting a town hall-style meeting on April 20 at Facebook headquarters to talk about the economy.
Obama won a decisive victory in the 2008 presidential election with huge support from voters who leveraged social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The "Facebook Live" town hall, as it's being called on the Facebook page detailing the event, will include Obama speaking with Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, the company's chief operating officer.
The event will be live streamed publicly from Facebook's Palo Alto headquarters, which allows for those without a Facebook account to watch, beginning at 1:45 p.m. PDT.
"On April 20th, President Obama heads to California to hold a very special facebook town hall about the economy," wrote Erin Lindsay, a White House spokeswoman in a blog post about the event. "The President will connect with Americans across the country to discuss the tough choices we must all make to put our economy on a more responsible fiscal path, while still investing in the innovation economy that makes America more competitive."
Facebook users can post questions on the site's event page or via a form on the White House website and Facebook will select which questions will make the cut.
