Happy April Fools' Day from around the Web
1. Google launched Gmail Motion in beta Friday -- a new service untethering Gmail users from the ball and chain of the keyboard and mouse. Finally, Gmail can be controlled by body motions alone.
"Gmail Motion uses your computer's built-in webcam and Google's patented spatial tracking technology to detect your movements and translate them into meaningful characters and commands," a Google blog post said. "Movements are designed to be simple and intuitive for people of all skill levels."
Google helpfully provided a link to a "printable guide of sample gestures" on the post. To write "Goodbye" in an email, simply squat. To send an email, kick your right leg back. Jab an index finger into the air to ask the deeply useful question "...who's going to water my plants?"
2. Finally, a Groupon clone for hipsters. Deals for Hipster launched as a daily deals site for the modern hipster to acquire cardigan sweaters and Woody Allen glasses on the cheap.
One sale today: For only $19, snag yourself "a pair of lenseless frames, guaranteed to make yourself more attractive to the opposite sex embuing the wearer with incredibly hipster credibility ($150 value, $800 if we had lenses in the frame)," according to the site.
3. Youtube reverts all its videos into the early years of cinema, say around 1911, with sepia coloring, grain filtering and no audio except piano accompaniment.
4. Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair offer child-free flights starting in October after a Europe-wide survey showed that half of air travelers would shell out more to avoid other people's rugrats.
“When it comes to children we all love our own but would clearly prefer to avoid other people’s little monsters when travelling. While half our passengers would like us to divide our cabins up into ‘adult’ and ‘family’ areas it is not operationally possible due to our free seating policy, with optional priority boarding," Ryanair said in a statement Friday. "However, with clear demand for ‘child free’ flights Ryanair will introduce child free flights on high frequency routes from the start of our winter schedule in October.”
