Gmail service fully restored after several days of problems, Google says

Gmail should be back up and fully restored for the thousands of users who lost messages or were unable to log in to their accounts over the last four days, Google said late Wednesday night.

At 10:51 p.m., Google posted an update to its App Status Dashboard:

The problem with Google Mail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.

While Google said repairs had been made and everything should be back to normal, it did caution that there was a chance that some users could still be having Gmail problems that may or may not be related to the "software storage update" bug that has plagued the company's free e-mail service since Sunday.

In the same late Wednesday update, Google said:

Gmail should be back to normal for the vast majority of people affected by this issue. If you are still experiencing an issue, please contact us.

Some commenters on the Technology Blog have asked what to do if they've been affected by the Gmail outage. Google directed affected users to contact its Gmail team at gmail-maintenance@google.com.

Thursday morning, Google reported on its App Status Dashboard that it was experiencing no service issues with Gmail.
