Google mobile searches jump 130% in the third quarter of 2010
Google announced the search increase for the period of July though September in a blog post about its "Seller Rating Extension," which is coming to mobile devices and was previously only offered on desktop versions of Google.com.
Google's Seller Ratings Extension is the company's user-submitted rating system that grades businesses on a five-star basis. (The rating appears next to Google advertisements purchased by those businesses.)
While touting the large spike in mobile searching, Google noted that a study from the Mobile Marketing Assn. found that 59% of holiday shoppers said they plan to use their mobile phones to help them in their holiday shopping.
No doubt, Google is hoping its data and that from Mobile Marketing Assn., will boost its ad sales.
"Seller Ratings are aggregated from merchant review sites all around the Web," wrote Anna Khesed, a spokeswoman for Google's mobile ads marketing team, in a blog post.
"And the extension will only show when a merchant's online store has a rating of four or more stars and at least 30 reviews," she wrote.
So, don't expect to see to many one-star ratings popping up on your smart phone as you turn to Google on your mobile gadgets.
