Android and iOS tie for most smart-phone ad impressions in Millennial Media report

Android and iOS are neck and neck once again when it comes to smart-phone ad impressions, according to mobile-ad network Millennial Media.Millenial

In the company’s monthly list of the top 30 mobile devices, Android and iOS each snagged 38% of the pie, while RIM had 19%. Smart phones picked up 58% of all impressions, leaving the rest to feature phones and other connected devices. 

Apple remains the top manufacturer, a position it has held for more than a year. The company’s iPhone and iPod touch are the top two individual mobile devices, according to Millennial.

Samsung came next among manufacturers, followed by Motorola with is trio of Droid devices.

But Android leads the pack when it comes to apps on the Millennial network, with 54% of the total. Android’s app portfolio has increased an average of 10% each month for the last four months.

Apple’s apps represented 38% of the offerings. Across the board, gaming apps were the most popular, followed by music and entertainment apps. Automotive apps tripled from the prior month as mobile users read up on incoming models and year-end promotions.

Among new platforms, Android was also the one that publishers and developers most want to back next year, moreso than iPad and Windows Phone 7.
