How does 84-year-old Queen Elizabeth II -- that iPod-owning royal star of Twitter, Flickr and YouTube -- manage to get even more hip?

The same way anyone else does: She joins Facebook.

On Monday, the British monarchy got even more modern, when its page on the popular social networking site went live.

The site’s wall is already crowded with photos: There’s the dashing young Prince Harry! Prince Charles hobnobbing at an event! The queen in a pink hat!

Rarely has Facebook gotten such royal treatment. And no, the Prince fan pages don’t count.

The page, called “The British Monarchy,” will provide updates on the royal family’s activities and upcoming schedule. A “Near Me” application enables visitors to map out related events coming to their area. One link leads to YouTube videos.

The profile’s crowning glory? 113,000 “likes” so far, and more coming fast.

But you can’t poke the queen. Can’t friend her either. The site is being run by a media team, which is allowing viewers to leave thoughts on the posts. Comments are pouring in, with more than 600 in one photo album.

“Such a lovely and graceful woman,” says one comment. “She looks like me!” says another. One frustrated visitor notes, “She just lives a complete life of luxury.’

And another, referring to the queen’s beloved pooches: “Would you please add a Corgi cam? :)”

Better start counting the “God save the Queens.”
