Amazon Kindle e-books can finally be ‘gifted’ to anyone with an e-mail address, the retail giant announced Friday.

But, if you give or get a Kindle e-book and don’t have a Kindle, or a smartphone or tablet that runs an Amazon Kindle app, actually reading the digital publication might be a little difficult.

Amazon’s Kindle apps are available on Apple’s iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and any Android smartphones or tablets, as well as Research In Motion’s BlackBerry smartphones.

The Seattle-based company, which has been under fire recently for selling controversial Kindle e-books and actual paper books dealing with pedophilia, also makes Kindle software PCs and Macs for those with mobile devices that don’t run Kindle apps.

Amazon offered no word on digital wrapping paper for its Kindle e-books.
