Blippy.com announces new security plan

The weekend’s picture-perfect weather was lost on Blippy.com’s founders, who hunkered down to hammer out a new security plan to assure the security of users’ data after a glitch exposed the accounts of five people.

Reaching out to users, the company outlined what happened and posted the plan on its blog Monday.

“This is a very serious issue and simply apologizing is not enough. We’ve spent the last 48 hours working around the clock to dissect the issues, reach out to affected users, and put together a plan to ensure this never happens again,” the post said.

The Palo Alto, Calif., company is rolling out a five-pronged effort that includes hiring a chief security officer, performing regular audits, investing in systems to filter out sensitive information, controlling what information that search engines cache, and creating a security and privacy center for users.

Blippy.com also asked users to e-mail them at hello@blippy.com with suggested measures to improve security and pledged to personally respond to each recommendation.
