Google corporate site may have been hacked [Updated]

Google’s corporate site appeared to have been hacked this morning.

Users who searched Google for “Google executives” were taken to a page in which all the information was in Chinese. The page displayed that way for the L.A. Times. But not for everyone.

The incident was first discovered by the Guardian, which speculated that it was another cyber attack on Google’s servers. Google shut down its mainland Chinese search engine on Monday and began redirecting users to its uncensored Hong Kong site. It's a daring gambit for the search giant, which wants to build a mobile business there.

[Updated at 8:23 a.m.: A Google spokesman denied that the site had been hacked. “This is not a hack but rather a bug affecting the language displayed to some users, and we are working to fix it soon,” he said. The page apparently also displayed in other languages, not just Chinese.]
