Ford Motor Co. Wednesday night announced new features to its SYNC in-car system, including the ability for users to sync up their mobile apps on their iPhones or Droids directly into the car’s controls.

The features were publicly shown off today in a keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show by Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally, who is known for his Midwestern ‘Leave it to Beaver’ mannerisms. A Kansas native, Mulally raised eyebrows in Dearborn, Mich., when he began driving a different car to work every day, just to see what his competitors are up to.

‘I drive more of our competitors’ cars than I drive Fords,’ Mulally said in an interview.
