As part of its continuing effort to become a safer and more appealing destination, YouTube has created a new section of its site called the Abuse and Safety Center, largely as a resource for parents and their teenage children. (Kids under 13 are not supposed to be using the site.)

The center is a hub for people to find information and resources on a number of privacy and safety issues, including cyber-harassment, hateful content and spam. It provides guidance on which videos should be flagged, who to call if you are concerned someone is at risk of suicide and a plea to quickly report potential abuse of minors. Also new is a special tool that allows users to better control bullying on their own YouTube channel.

In creating this center, YouTube partnered with organizations including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Crime Prevention Council and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
