LG giving away headsets for July 1 start of no-dialing-while-driving law

June 18, 2008 |  5:09 pm

LG's HBM-760 Bluetooth headsetLG, the Korean consumer electronics company, plans to give away 1,000 Bluetooth cellphone headsets Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. No admission fee is required for the event, and there is a limit of one headset per person.

LG folks will be on hand to help pair up the little wireless doohickeys with mobile phones, provided the phones are Bluetooth capable. The tech support alone could be worth the trip (that, and the fact that Erik Estrada is scheduled to appear).

The company is holding the event in advance of a California law taking effect July 1, making it illegal to drive while holding a cellphone. If you're not able to snag one of the free LG headsets (pictured right, not actual size), the LAT's David Colker has suggestions on which headsets you may want to shell out actual money for.
