Jim Puzzanghera covers tech and media policy from Washington, D.C.
He joined the Times in 2006 from the San Jose Mercury News, where he spent eight years as the paper's Washington bureau chief. Before that, he worked for the Mercury News in Silicon Valley during the dawn of the dot.com boom, when homes and lunches in Palo Alto were still somewhat affordable. He lives in Virginia with his wife and two boys, who, when he's not forcing them to play outside, constantly teach him new things about the Web and video games.

Jessica Guynn covers the Internet.
She has spent two decades as a journalist, reporting from board rooms and locker rooms, delving into politics and the Pentagon. Her sweet spot is Silicon Valley: how the technology, people and culture are changing life as we know it.
A Berkeley native, she joined the Times in 2007 from the San Francisco Chronicle, where she was the senior technology writer. Before that she spent nearly a decade with the Contra Costa Times.
Her first computer was a Mac thanks to the largesse of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who donated a slew of them to his (sort of) alma mater Reed College during her freshman year.

Michelle Quinn covered computers and digital music. She left the Times in October 2008.
She has chronicled the digital revolution since 1993, when she wrote for the first issue of Wired magazine about how computers were changing Hollywood special effects. She covered Netscape's 1995 public offering for the San Francisco Chronicle and rode the roller coaster of the dot-com boom and bust for the San Jose Mercury News.
In the evenings, the Delaware native can be found at home watching TV shows and movies on her laptop, with another nearby to surf the Web.

Joseph Menn covers technology-related privacy and security issues, Microsoft and the L.A. tech scene.
He has handled virtually every tech beat -- and a few entertainment ones -- since joining the Times in 1999. Originally from New England, he wrote "All the Rave," that book about Napster you've been meaning to read. Before he had kids, he surfed more.
He will be on leave through the end of 20008 while he writes another book.

Alex Pham covers consumer electronics and video games (no, she doesn't get to play World of Warcraft all day).
She has been a business reporter for nearly two decades, writing for the Oregonian, the Washington Post, USA Today and the Boston Globe before joining the Times in 1999 at the peak of the dot.com bubble.
When not chewing on SEC filings, Alex enjoys mixing up Lego bricks with her son.

Jon Healey is an opinion writer.
He is a member of the editorial board at the Los Angeles Times, which means he is one of a nameless, faceless group writing screeds that, technically speaking, reflect the views of the publisher (whoever that happens to be at the time). His main contributions to the editorial page are pieces about intellectual property, technology, the economy, regulation and general business issues. He also created the Bit Player blog in 2006 as a way to write more about the collision of entertainment and technology.
Prior to joining the board, he spent five years as a business reporter at the Times covering the entertainment-technology convergence. As a result, he spent the bulk of his time writing about lawsuits. Other career stops include stints at the San Jose Mercury News, Congressional Quarterly and the Winston-Salem Journal.
