Mary-Kate Olsen kicks it 'Yo! MTV Raps' in 'The Wackness'
Rather than see 'The Wackness' you might want to simply create the soundtrack playlist. The film's main character Luke (Josh Peck) is a straight-up 1994 hip hop head and the film is laced with tracks that would make Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex and Angie Martinez proud. Luke has a big Jeru the Damaga poster in his bedroom and tells his herbal source Percy (Method Man) that his favorite artists are Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde and De La Soul. Needless to say, watching the film is like taking a trip back into your Walkman while riding the subway back in mid-1990s.
Here's a quick and partial playlist I jotted down during a screening on Saturday:
"The World is Yours," Nas
"Summertime," Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
"Can I Kick It?," A Tribe Called Quest
"Cant You See," Total (featuring Biggie Smalls)
"Just a Friend," Biz Markie
"Flava in Ya Ear," Craig Mack
Unfortunately, Method Man did not show up for the premiere, but we booked some time with Mary-Kate Olsen, who plays the hippie-like Union, as well as Josh Peck and Olivia Thrilby.
