Football on Main St.
For a while, one thing seemed to overshadow the films, the parties and even the stars at Sundance. For a few hours, there were only two opinions, two sides that you could be on. And for almost half an hour, I, along with about twenty others, stood outside of a fire marshal's nightmare -- the packed Doolan's sports bar on Main St. -- watching the futility, then triumph of Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes as the New York "football" Giants beat the Green Bay Packers to make it to the Super Bowl.
Screams up and down the boulevard of disgust ("Who throws on second down in a championship game!?!") and unbridled joy ("New York, baby!") filled the air as sports fans poured out of bars or malls or wherever the game was being shown. Comforting looks and smiles towards die-hard Packers fans -- at least those dressed in team colors -- were on many corners.
The party scene was sure to heat up after the game, though. Cheeseheads can drown their sorrows and contemplate next year (possibly without Brett Favre!).
