All quiet on the pressroom front
Dragged myself out of bed this morning expecting to plunge headlong into the festival maelstrom. But walked into the lobby of my hotel, one of the central hubs of events, and found it as quiet as any weekday morning in the middle of nowhere. The only sign that we were at the epicenter of world independent film frenzy was blogger David Poland sitting in an armchair scrolling through his BlackBerry.
Rode the bus to the Marriott's festival HQ. Met on board Melissa Rosenberg, a photographer for Ecorazzi, a company that takes pictures of celebs doing green things. Melissa has carefully studied the Sundance schedule and announcements for any hint of Earth-friendly activity, before which she will lie in wait. I think of the anti-paparazzi backlash currently raging around the Britney cohorts and wonder when the Green Revolution will gain so much momentum that people are calling for limits and crackdowns on the ecorazzi. Only then will this planet be on the road to safety.
The Marriott, center of the universe for millions of film students and aspiring auteurs, is, by all appearances, mildly awake. The atmosphere is akin to the excitement one would find during break time at a Ditech regional conference just before the afternoon work groups begin meeting. The press center sees a steady line of reporters coming to pick up and request tickets. There seems no consensus on the movie I "must see" tonight, so I request tics for "The Merry Gentleman" as it involves Michael Keaton and sounds like "The Merry Widow," which I could see any day.
Just got a text msg from my friend Emily Wagner, internationally renowned as the Gurney Girl on "ER," who is starring in "Chronic Town" playing here tomorrow night. She warns that she is going straight from the airport to the most important stop in Park City, the Swag Suite, before even checking in to her hotel. And so perhaps, it really does begin.
Off to check out Main Street and observe as the sleeper awakens.

From "eco" to "swag" jshows that Hollywood is still full of greenhouse gas emissions.
How much oil will burn for this "green" event? If only we could power ourselves on hot air.
