Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has signed a four-year extension worth more than $60 million that allows him to opt out after three years.

‘Did I want the five years? Of course,’ Love said on a conference call. ‘It was something I felt strongly about. But at the end of the day, a four-year deal is still great.’

Love led the NBA in rebounding last season and this season is fifth in the NBA in scoring (24.9 points per game) and second in rebounding (13.9).

The early opt-out clause allows Love to become an unrestricted free agent in three years.

‘The early termination keeps my options open and I want to see where this team is going to head,’ Love said. ‘I feel that we are [on the right track], and that we’ll get there. ‘I’m looking at this as a four-year deal and we’ll go from there.’

The team had until 9 p.m. PST Wednesday to sign Love to a deal and prevent Love from becoming a restricted free agent in July.
