USC basketball: Trojans receive commitment from 2012 PG Dewayne Russell

Usclogo_200Dewayne Russell, a senior point guard at Peoria (Ariz.) High, verbally committed to USC on Thursday while the 5-foot-10 guard was on campus for a visit, he said in a phone interview.

"It just feel like it's a good fit for me," said Russell, a four-year starter who is averaging 28.5 points, 5.6 assist, 5.1 steals and 3.3 rebounds this season for the 11-0 Panthers.

"He can hit the three, he can get up and dunk like a big guy. He can kind of do it all," said his high school coach, Michael Serwa.

Russell said he was also considering Colorado, San Francisco and Oregon State.

Russell is eligbie to sign as early as April 11, the first day of the spring signing period.

He's poised to join forward Strahinja Gavrilovic and guard J.T. Terrell next season at USC.

Gavrilovic came to the U.S. from Serbia to play his senior year at  La Jolla Prep and he signed with USC in November, as did Terrell, a Wake Forest transfer who is playing at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Wash., and is rated the No. 1 junior college player in the country by Swanny's Roundball Review.
