Clippers are close to signing free agent forward/center Reggie Evans

Reggie3The Clippers are close to signing veteran free agent forward/center Reggie Evans to a one-year deal for about $1.3 million, according to a basketball executive who was not authorized to speak publicly about the deal.

Evans, 31, has played for four teams over nine seasons in the NBA.

The Clippers were looking for a rugged backup big man to come off the bench.

Evans is not known as an offensive threat, but he is a strong rebounder and sets good screens. Last season the 6-foot-8 Evans averaged 4.4 points and 11.5 rebounds a game with Toronto.

The offer is contingent on Evans passing a physical.
