Tony Romo casually gave a group of high school students some pretty big news Tuesday: He’s going to be a dad.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was taking questions during an appearance at Cedar Hill High when he was asked whether he had any children. Romo replied, ‘Um, no, I don’t have any kids,’ which for some reason got a huge cheer from the teenagers.

Some of them might have felt a bit sheepish when Romo followed with, ‘I’ve actually got one on the way. My wife’s pregnant.’

That revelation got an even louder cheer, during which Romo pumped his fist and added, ‘It’ll be fun.’

Romo and former TV sports reporter Candice Crawford got married in May. Their baby is due in March.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Romo has led the Cowboys to just three post-season appearances and only one playoff victory in his six seasons as the starting quarterback. Fans have sometimes pointed to Romo’s personal life as a reason for the team’s recent shortcomings — maybe they’ll be more understanding when he’s a new dad.
