Rex Peters to be hired as UCLA baseball assistant coach

UCLA Rex Peters, baseball coach at UC Davis for the last nine seasons, will be hired as assistant coach at UCLA, confirmed a person with knowledge of the situation. The person requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about pending personnel moves.

Baseball America reported the move Wednesday night. The report said an official announcement about Peters' hiring is not expected until mid-August.

Peters is no stranger to Southern California. He played at Cal State Fullerton and was an assistant and head coach at Chapman University.

Peters will succeed Rick Vanderhook, who left UCLA to become head coach at Fullerton.
