X Games: Big crowds already as competition opens
It may only be an elimination round of the BMX Freestyle competition, but crowds have turned out for the opening of X Games 17.
A few hundred fans have filled the L.A. Live Event Deck to watch the 20 riders. Groups of schoolchildren make up most of the crowd, distinguishable by their bright, solid-colored T-shirts.
The loudest fans, as so often is the case at the X Games, are the competitors themselves. Dozens of riders watch each run intently, letting the less-informed in attendance know an impressive trick with applause of their own.
