July 28, 2011 |  2:06 pm

Xgames-logo_300 The first event of X Games 17 was the elimination round for BMX Freestyle Park, which is held on the event deck at L.A. Live, and it just wrapped up.

There were 20 BMX riders to start and only 10 earned the right to advance to Round One, which is scheduled to take place here at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Here are those 10:

1. Dennis Enarson 82.00 (the silver medalist in this event last year)
2. Chase Hawk 77.00
3. Scotty Cranmer 77.00
4. Daniel Dhers 76.00 (the gold medalist in this event last year)
5. Gary Young 74.00 (the bronze medalist in this event last year)
6. Garrett Reynolds 71.00
7. Diogo Canina 70.00
8. Kyle Baldock 70.00
9. Ryan Nyquist 69.00 (A San Jose native)
10. Brett Banasiewicz 68.00

These 10 will compete for five spots in the finals. The finals are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Here's a little background on Thursday's elmination round and how the scores were tabulated.

The 20 riders were broken up into groups of five. Each group of five had a 15-minute jam session in which each rider went around the transition-based concrete and wood-hybrid course and tried to pull off as many tricks as he could in a 40-second maximum run time.

The riders were judged on execution of maneuvers, degree of difficulty, variety, continuity of run, originality and style, amplitude and use of the course. The top two scores per rider are the ones that counted.
