Shawn Johnson back; Alexandra Raisman wins CoverGirl Classic

Shawn Johnson, who won three silver medals and one gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is starting a comeback aimed at the 2012 London Games, and Saturday at the CoverGirl Classic in Chicago. Johnson competed in two events -- uneven bars, in which she scored a 13.550, and balance beam, in which she scored a 13.300.

After the competition, Johnson’s petition to be included in next month’s Visa National Championships in St. Paul, Minn., was accepted.

Alexandra Raismann of Needham, Mass., won the senior all-around title and Kyla Ross of Aliso Viejo won the junior all-around title. Ross will be age-eligible for the the London Olympics next year.

Also making a comeback are two other 2008 Olympians, Chellsie Memmel and Alicia Sacramone. Raisman’s winning all-around score was 57.250, with Memmel second with a 56.950 in her first major meet of her comback.

Sacramone, who is the defending world vault champion, won that event, and she also tied for first on balance beam and finished third on floor exercise.
