Goalkeeper scores from his own box [Video]

July 14, 2011 |  8:26 am

Just minutes into his professional soccer debut, San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham did something most veteran goalies have probably never done -- he scored a goal.

And he did it from his own box. In the third minute of an exhibition that pitted the MLS squad against the English Premier League's West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, the former Cal keeper picked up a failed through ball and kicked it to the sunny end of the field.

The ball bounced over the head of West Brom goalie Boaz Myhill and into the net for a 1-0 San Jose lead.

Bingham, who was pulled at halftime with many of the starters, did not allow a goal for the Quakes, who went on to a 2-1 victory.
