Vijay Singh's major championship streak in jeopardy

June 6, 2011 |  1:18 pm

The longest active streak of playing in golf's major championships appears to be close to an end.

Vijay Singh has played in 67 straight major championships over the last 17 years. But he was not on hand for his tee time in a U.S. Open qualifier at Brookside Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday. After shooting a seven-under 65 in Sunday's final round of the Memorial, Singh informed reporters he would not try to qualify Monday.

That leaves this weekend's St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn., as Singh's final chance to qualify. He is expected to play in the event and would need a top-two finish to qualify for the U.S. Open.

The three-time major title winner has struggled with injuries of late and needed an exemption to make the 2010 Open field, something that isn't expected to happen this year.
