Carolina’s Jeff Skinner won the Calder Trophy as the rookie of the year. The league’s youngest player at 18, he led rookies with 63 points. Nice kid, immense potential.

The Jennings trophy, automatically awarded to the goalies on the team with the lowest goals-against average, went to the Canucks’ Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider.

The new General Manager of the Year award went to Mike Gillis of Vancouver.

By the way, the voting on the Norris trophy was very close. Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom beat out Nashville’s Shea Weber, 736-727. The Kings’ Drew Doughty, a runnerup last year, finished in a tie for 10th. He got one second-place vote and one fifth-place vote.
More coming as the awards are announced.
