It appears the Angels have come to terms with first-round pick C.J. Cron, the University of Utah first baseman who was the 17th overall selection in the June 6 draft.

Cron sent out a message on his Twitter account Thursday night that said, “Off to Anaheim on Monday to sign the contract! I’m going to be an Angel.”

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder hit .434 with 15 home runs, 26 doubles and 59 runs batted in last season. He is expected to receive a bonus in the $1.7-million range.

Cron, 21, is not expected to play for an Angels minor league affiliate this season. He played the entire season at Utah with a tear in his throwing shoulder that will probably require surgery, which would sideline him for at least six months.

Cron, the son of former Angels outfielder Chris Cron, said during a conference call after the draft that the injury “didn’t affect my swing much.”

But when asked on a conference call if it would require surgery, Cron said, “Yeah, something will have to be done eventually.” Such a procedure could delay Cron’s professional debut until 2012.

Cron, who led the nation with a .804 slugging percentage, is the first college player the Angels picked in the first round since Long Beach State pitcher Jered Weaver in 2004 and the first college position player the picked in the first round since UCLA third baseman Troy Glaus in 1997.
