Angels first baseman Kendrys Morales underwent a second surgery on his broken ankle Thursday and after cleaning out scar tissues and other debris, doctors performed a bone graft as well.

Morales had a pin and six screws put in his ankle last June after breaking it while celebrating a game-winning home run. The Angels had hoped to have Morales back this season but after he was unable to run hard on his ankle through spring training and the first six weeks of the regular season, Morales elected to have a second operation.

Thursday’s three-hour procedure was performed by Dr. Thomas Clanton in Vail, Colo. No timetable has been established for Morales’ recovery and rehab.
