Kings sign prospects Vey, Berube

Kings The Kings announced Monday they have signed forward Linden Vey and goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to three-year, entry-level contracts. No terms were disclosed.

Vey, 19, was chosen in the fourth round and 96th overall in the 2009 NHL entry draft. He has played the last four seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League and last season was the top scorer in the three major Canadian junior leagues with 116 points, on 46 goals and 70 assists in 69 regular-season games. He also had a plus-37 rating.

The 5-foot-10, 166-pound forward scored 12 goals and 25 points in 15 playoff games, helping Medicine Hat advance to the WHL’s Eastern Conference finals. Vey was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy for being the WHL’s regular-season leading scorer and was also named a WHL Eastern Conference First-Team All-Star.

Berube, 19, was selected in the fourth round (95th overall) in the 2009 draft. He has played the last three seasons with the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and last season was 2-7-8 with three shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage in 50 games. Among QMJHL netminders, Berube ranked fourth in goals-against average, second in wins, sixth in winning percentage and tied for fifth in shutouts as he helped lead his club to the playoffs.
