It appears baseball fans, in general, are feeling some sympathy for Dodgers owner Frank McCourt.

In a survey conducted this week by Seton Hall University’s Sharkey Institute, 45% of those polled said Major League Baseball was wrong to take control of the Dodgers. A total of 495 respondents took part in the telephone poll, with 34% supporting the move and 20% saying they didn’t know. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Female respondents tended to side with McCourt, with 49% opposed to the takeover of the team. Men in the poll slightly favored the takeover move, with 44% supporting and 42% against.

“In the court of public opinion, the team’s ownership seems to be winning versus MLB’s decision,” poll director Rick Gentile told Bloomberg News.
