Mr. Commons will be heard from in Triple Crown series
It doesn't look like the lightly raced Mr. Commons will have enough graded stakes earnings to gain a spot in the Kentucky Derby, but the John Shirreffs-trained 3-year-old could show up for the Preakness Stakes on May 21.
Shirreffs, who trained Zenyatta, was excited on Thursday after Mr. Commons worked a swift four furlongs at Hollywood Park in 46.80 seconds, the top time of the morning for the distance.
Shirreffs said the Preakness Stakes is an option for Mr. Commons, a son of Artie Schiller who has won two of four starts and finished third in the Santa Anita Derby in his stakes debut.
