Jump to it: The Lakers’ Eddie Jones takes a rebound away from the Seattle SuperSonics’ Sam Perkins in a Western Conference semifinal game at the Forum on May 11, 1998.

Drafted by the Lakers in the first round of the 1994 NBA draft, Jones averaged 14 points and 2.1 steals per game in his rookie season and finished fourth in rookie of the year balloting.

He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Lakers and was a crowd favorite, usually camping out on the wing and knocking down mid-range jumpers.

Though he was named to the Western Conference All-Star team in 1996-97 and 1997-98, the Lakers sent him and Elden Campbell to Charlotte on March 10, 1999, for B.J. Armstrong, J.R. Reid and Glen Rice.

The next year the Lakers went on to win the NBA championship with Coach Phil Jackson.
