Women’s basketball: UCLA will play California in Pac-10 tournament semifinal

UCLA’s women’s basketball team, which received a bye into the semifinals of the Pacific 10 Conference tournament, will play California on Friday at the Galen Center.

Sixth-seeded Cal advanced with a 48-43 quarterfinal victory over third-seeded Arizona State on Thursday at the Galen Center.

Sophomore guard Layshia Clarendon, who played at San Bernardino Cajon High, scored 22 points for Cal.

Arizona State trailed by one point, 44-43, after two free throws by Tenaya Watson with 47.8 seconds remaining. But Clarendon made four free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
