USC football: Defensive lineman Armond Armstead hospitalized

USC defensive lineman Armond Armstead was admitted to the hospital and is undergoing tests for an unspecified medical condition, the school announced Friday.

Armstead was hospitalized Thursday.

‘His situation is being evaluated and tests are continuing,’ Coach Lane Kiffin said in a statement. ‘USC’s outstanding team of doctors is providing him with excellent medical care.

‘I saw Armond and his family this morning. He is in great spirits and in stable condition. He is looking forward to getting back with his teammates soon.

‘He and his family asked that no further information be released at this point.’

Armstead, a senior, played in 12 games last season. He made 43 tackles including 6 1/2 for losses. He had three sacks.

USC opens spring practice March 22.
