UCLA football: Quarterback Darius Bell to miss spring practice due to shoulder surgery
Bell injured the shoulder during the Washington game in November, his only appearance during the season.
Kevin Prince, the Bruins’ starter, will be limited in practice as he is still recovering from knee surgery. Prince may get work in during seven-on-seven drills.
Richard Brehaut, who took over after Prince was injured, is playing baseball. He will participate in spring practice. Nick Crissman is coming off a second shoulder surgery. He has been cleared to practice.
That could leave more time for freshman Brett Hundley, who enrolled early to participate in spring practice. A decision on a starter will be held off until fall practice.
Other Bruins who will miss spring practice are: safety Dalton Hilliard (knee surgery), punter Jeff Locke (hip surgery), defensive end Keenan Graham (hip surgery), linebacker Patrick Larimore (shoulder surgery), cornerback Anthony Jefferson (foot surgery) and wide receiver Jerry Johnson (broken ankle).
Linebacker Jared Koster (shoulder surgery) and wide receiver Shaquelle Evans (shoulder surgery) will practice, but will be held out of contact drills.
The Bruins will have back: tight end John Young (shoulder surgery), defensive end Iuta Tepa (torn pectoral muscles), center Kai Maiava (broken ankle), defensive end Datone Jones (broken foot), cornerback Brandon Sermons (knee surgery) and linebacker Todd Golper (back injury).
Spring practice begins March 31.
