Pacific Life Pac-10 tournament: Arizona prevails with 78-69 victory over Oregon State

Oregon State forward Joe Burton knocked Arizona’s Kevin Parrom to the floor while delivering a knockout blow to the Beavers’ chances.

The Beavers were still within striking distance midway through the second half of their Pacific Life Pac-10 tournament quarterfinal Thursday afternoon at Staples Center when Burton elbowed Parrom, sending the Wildcats forward reeling.

Nelson was ejected and Arizona scored the next eight points on the way to a 78-69 victory that propelled the top-seeded Wildcats into a game against fourth-seeded USC at 6 p.m. Friday.

Arizona forward Derrick Williams scored 22 points on eight-for-12 shooting and guard Lamont Jones added 13 points.

Oregon State guard Jared Cunningham scored 23 points, fading a bit over the final 20 minutes after tallying 19 points in the first half.
