The Kings, looking for a bounce at the end of a six-game homestand, lead the Dallas Stars, 1-0, after one period.

Willie Mitchell sent in an innocent-enough-looking slap shot from the blue line, but Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen was screened by his own player and reacted late. The goal gave the Kings a 1-0 lead 8 minutes 39 seconds into the period.

The Kings’ Justin Williams picked up his 400th career assist on the play.

The Stars lost forward Steve Ott, who jabbed the Kings’ Kyle Clifford with his stick during a fracas late in the period. Ott received a major penalty and a game misconduct for spearing. Clifford received a two-minute roughing penalty.

When Clifford stepped back onto the ice, he leveled the Stars’ Jamie Benn.
