NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell keeps word, cuts salary to $1

Roger Goodell is keeping his word: The NFL commissioner, as well as the league’s general counsel, Jeff Pash, will cut their salaries to $1 each during the labor lockout.

Goodell, who earns about $10 million a year, and Pash, who is paid nearly $5 million a year, said in January that they would take salary cuts if there was a work stoppage. Goodell will have any bonus payments to him delayed until there is a deal with the NFL Players Assn.

Also taking cuts will be all league personnel at the New York headquarters, NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J., and at NFL Network and NFL.com in Culver City. For now, salaries for those league employees will be reduced by 12%.

If the work stoppage is not resolved by August, salary reductions for management-level employees will range from 25% for the higher-level earners to 5% for lower-level earners. Several teams have instituted furloughs and pay cuts because of the lockout, which began Saturday morning after the players union decertified and the owners locked the players out.
