Kraft Nabisco Championship: Former Penn State golfer Kate Futcher has clubhouse lead

Fabforum Kate Futcher, a former All-American at Penn State who has never won an LPGA tournament, posted a two-under-par score of 70, the best of the golfers who had finished the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage at midday Thursday.

About half the field was still on the course.

Mindy Kim of Diamond Bar was also in with a one-under 71.

The leaders on the course were Sandra Gal of Germany, who won her first career tournament last week at the Kia Classic, Mika Miyazato of Japan and Mariajo Uribe, a 20-year-old from Colombia and a two-time All-American when she played at UCLA before she turned pro last year.
