The joy did not last long for the Ducks’ Jonas Hiller against the Predators in Nashville on Thursday night. Eleven minutes 39 seconds, to be exact.

The All-Star goaltender, in his first game back after sitting out 15 games because of vertigo symptoms, gave up a goal 2:04 into the game and then, about nine minutes later, gave up two more goals in a span of 19 seconds. He faced a total of nine shots.

At that point, Coach Randy Carlyle pulled the Swiss star, who had hoped he’d be ready even though it’s hard to duplicate game-time situations in practice. Hiller went directly to the dressing room amid pats on the back from teammates. Dan Ellis took over in goal.

Meanwhile, Nashville’s Pekka Rinne has been brilliant in net, making several spectacular saves on shots from the red-hot Teemu Selanne. But the Ducks’ Corey Perry managed to collect his 41st goal of the season. The score at the end of the first period: 3-1.
