The Sparks traded point guard Andrea Riley to the Tulsa Shock in exchange for a 2012 second-round pick, the team announced Tuesday.

Riley is pregnant and is due late March. A native of Dallas, the trade will send her closer to her family and friends.

‘She’ll be closer to home; she’ll have her support system there,’ said Sparks General Manager Penny Toler.

Riley, who was drafted by the Sparks last season as the eighth overall pick, averaged 3.4 points and one assist in 7.7 minutes a game. At Oklahoma State, she was the second-leading scorer in the nation with 26.7 points a game and led the Big 12 Conference in assists with 6.5 a game.

‘Whenever we went to Oklahoma, if you look at the stats, she had her best game,’ Toler said. ‘Everyone had her jersey; I think she’s going to be well-received.’

Toler said the team plans to fill the position soon by signing a free-agent guard to back up veteran Ticha Penicheiro, who is expected to re-sign with the team.
