With the start of spring practice less than a month away, USC Coach Lane Kiffin filled a vacancy on his staff by hiring Ted Gilmore as receivers coach, the school announced Thursday.

Gilmore replaces John Morton, who left USC to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the San Francisco 49ers.

Gilmore, 43, coached the last six seasons at Nebraska. He also was the Cornhuskers’ recruiting coordinator from 2007 to 2010.

Gilmore played at Wyoming and began his coaching career at his alma mater. He also has coached at Kansas, Houston, Purdue and Colorado.

‘He comes to us highly recommended by a number of very prominent coaches,’ Kiffin said in a statement. ‘I’m excited for him to start working with our talented group of receivers.”

Gilmore will coach a unit that includes Robert Woods, who was a Freshman All-American last season, and incoming freshman George Farmer.
